THE DOG OF OSCAR WILDE AND THE FROG OF MARK TWAIN
FAMOUS PETS

ON: BEING A GENTLEMAN

OSCAR WILDE Observes:
A gentleman is he who, upon realizing that he is superior to the others in his presence, will attempt to prevent them from realizing this.  I find this obligation very difficult to fulfill.

MARK TWAIN Remarks:
Where I come from a gentleman is identified by how he treats a lady.  Thus, before he lights a cigar he offers one to her.  Also, he will not wipe the mouth of the jug if she has taken the first swig.
